Hello, Corbin. Or Byrne, I suppose; it’s not like it would be easy to tell them apart in silhouette.

INSPIRATION archery

to the archers who view their arrows as an extension of their souls, whose aim is a force to be reckoned with as they kill from a distance. they are clever warriors, keeping safe distance while making their attacks, ensuring their own security while piercing that of their enemies.

Whisper by *Street-Angel
Exclamations burst from the faeries on both sides: shocked, angry, disbelieving. Veronica looked murderous, and Bluebell nauseated. But at the back of the crowd where Byrne lay bleeding in his twin brother’s arms, his fingers lifted feebly to grasp Corbin’s collar, and the two of them began whispering to each other. P.340 of Arrow by RJ AndersonIt’s actually impossible to give more context to the scene without spoiling the solution for book 3. However if you have started reading, or you’ve read, the Faery Rebels you’ll know that the Blackwing twins are actually bad guys. Or more precisely they’re the leading antagonists leading henchmen. So you might be sat there wondering what on earth I’m doing drawing the bad guys. But something just really struck me about this moment. About what they’re whispering about. And what it says about their relationship with each other. That and I’m a sucker for twins. And clearly all my Faery Rebels fanarts are defined by their amazing choices in footwear. The rockface is from google. Also experimented with lips on guys…I’m still not used to it but I think it came out okay. Drawing lips on girl character is easy cause pink and red are gloss and lipstick. With guys the definition always looks too strong to me because there’s never enough tone and texture in the rendered faces to pull it off but I think it worked here.Moving swiftly on.*flees*

*makes squeaking noises and flaps hands feebly, like a wounded raven*
Amazing choices in EVERYTHING. I am so humbled and grateful to have such wonderful fanart for my faery books! Seeing my words spark readers to such creativity is really thrilling.
Also, BOOTS.

Valerian wouldn’t wear red, even if she could. But otherwise, this could very well be her.

Let Her Go by *Street-Angel
But even as he spoke footsteps pounded up the stairs, and a slim, dark-haired boy leaped up onto the landing, brandishing a fireplace poker like a sword. Cold iron ringed his fingers, braced his wrists, swung in cross-shape from a leather thong around his neck - an armour no faery spell could penetrate.‘Let her go, Martin,’ he panted, leveling the poker.A talented young human, the Empress had called Timothy, but regrettably prone to violence. Rhosmari knew it was true - and yet her heart beat faster at the sight of him, just the same.P.171 Arrow by RJ AndersonActually drew this and lined it over a year ago. At the time I was experimenting with thicker lines and, as you can probably tell, it didn’t catch on. I did however like the energy and the slightly warped perspective that seems to focus on Timothy (either that or my eyes are just going funky from looking at it too long) that happened completely by accident.I think it could almost be Rhosmari’s view of the scene. To know more about what’s going on you’ll have to read RJ Anderson’s amazing Faerie Rebels series Knife, Rebel and Arrow.Enjoy

Unsurprisingly, I completely and utterly adore this. It could indeed be from Rhosmari’s perspective, and it’s actually quite close in many ways to my own mental image of the scene, right down to the wallpaper and the character blocking. (The portrait on the wall is a lovely touch too!)
I amended two bits in the quoted material above, one a typo and the other one of the most upsetting errors that crept into the first edition — the line that ended up reading “her heart at the sight of him” instead of “her heart beat faster at the sight of him”, even though I’d already caught and corrected that mistake in copyedits. *sob*

(And speaking of which, if anybody has a later edition of the book, could you let me know if it’s been corrected yet? Thanks.)
Anyway, the point of all this is — this is an amazing piece of fanart that makes me very happy, and am so thrilled to be able to share Street-Angel’s brilliant work with you all!

Not quite my mental image of Martin. Hair wrong style, bit too pouty-looking. But reminiscent enough of him to make me take notice.

As seen in this excellent post on EPBOT:

Zahava wrote to me herself, saying, “I really liked all the steampunk costumes on epbot, so I thought I would try to make my own steampunk fairy costume for Halloween.”
(Yep, you read that right; she put this costume together herself!)“The goggles were a pair of plastic giant glasses. I used a headband for the strap, and used a paper towel roll covered in brown fabric and cut to make the back of the goggles, with the padding from headphones on the end.”

I love this not only for the sheer tenacious creativity and problem-solving involved, but also because steampunk or not, this outfit is very like what I imagine Linden wearing in REBEL aka WAYFARER, and Zahava herself could almost be a young Rhosmari from ARROW. Fantastic work!
